Geotechnical support and validation for 27.9km dual carriageway tender design; involving significant peat and soft soils over at least 15% of route length, rock cutting to 18m depth and 22 principal structures. N26 Stage 1, Ballina, Co Mayo (Ireland). Design of soil nailed option for oversteepened cutting side slope to be formed in immediate proximity to antiquity site. Design and supervision of selective rock bolting and localised mesh containment measures. N60 Castlebar - Claremorris, Co. Mayo (Ireland). Site walkover reconnaissance, terrain evaluation of alternative route corridors and preliminary investigations for 25km re-alignment through glacial and karst environments. Design and procurement of ground investigation. N15 Ballyshannon Bypass - Specimen Design, Co. Donegall (Ireland). Preliminary design and detailed investigations for contiguous bored piled cutting in urban fringe and high capacity deep anchorages to 100m span arch bridge springings at River Erne. Dinnish Wharf, Cork, Co. Cork (Ireland). Assessment of new quay stability issues related to the presence of soft sediments overlying adversely inclined shallow rock platform. N18 & N85 Ennis Bypass - Specimen Design, Co. Clare (Ireland). Interpretation and review of foundation conditions for fourteen principal structures. Reef Island, Manama (Bahrain). Stability verification for marina sea walls. Foundation investigations and design of reclamation soil strengthening for sea wall stability, feature swimming pool and principal raft foundations. Design of special purpose basement excavation. Wadi Crossings, Southern Expressway (Oman). Engaged to undertake Cat III assessment of global stability for terraced reinforced soil embankment construction, up to 65m in height. Also undertook field reconnaissance in connection with an independent review of borrow material suitability. Reclamation Settlement, Durrat al Bahrain Resort (Bahrain). Independent review of reclamation placement and verification of acceptability criteria in terms of end use foundation settlement performance. Mesiaeed Link Road, Mesaieed (Qatar). Partially constructed reinforced soil approach ramps for three grade separated interchanges had remained exposed to storm rainfall and general deterioration over 2 ½ year period following suspension of construction. Prior to resumption of construction and completion of earthworks, an independent assessment of deterioration and wall face deformations was carried out; also sampling and testing to verify the compliance of the selected granular filling. Identification and categorisation of defects; prioritised recommendations for selective reconstruction to satisfy long term serviceability criteria. Reinforced Earth Stability, Abu Dahbi (UAE). Independent global stability checking of Sheikh Zayed Bridge approach ramps, comprising up to 15m high terraced reinforced earth construction. Site Enabling Works, Ras Laffan (Qatar). Ground investigations, drainage studies and advance works design for 460Ha coastal petrochemical expansion. Design of site platform bulk filling, groundwater management, surface water drainage and outfall channels. ADWEA Interconnector, Abu Dhabi (UAE). Stability checks on the side slopes of transmission tower platforms for 400kV overhead power interconnector constructed in a tidal creek adjacent to Abu Dhabi Island, where water depth up to 6m. Consideration of hydrostatic, construction and permanent load cases. Lee Breakwater Pipracks, Ras Laffan (Qatar). Geotechnical assessment of existing hydraulically filled breakwater construction at Ras Laffan petrochemical terminal. Foundation design for new piperacks - across landfall made ground, 4km long breakwater and the approach jetty to liquid product berth. Design for limiting differential settlement; breakwater side slope instability in 12m water depth; internal and external stability of block column type gravity jetty structure. Seismic hazard evaluation and seismic stability check for berakwater and approach jetty. Support Services Area, Dukhan (Qatar). Site preparation works for 100 Ha petrochemical support services complex adjacent to Dukhan oil production field. Site appraisal, investigations and foundation design for advance infrastructure and enabling works; arterial roads, water supply, drainage, electricity and telecommunications. Hydrology and Storm Drainage (Bahrain). Hydrological assessment of al Durrat east coast highway route corridor across undualting and sidelong coastal backslopes. Derivation of storm frequency / intensity / runoff relationships for the project area. Design of storm drainage arrangements and relief culvert requirements. Durrat al Bahrain Highway Link, Southern Region (Bahrain). East coast highway route corridor to serve Durrat al Bahrain development. 30km route reconnaissance for dual carriageway across undualting and sidelong coastal backslopes, merging into sabkah terrain towards the south. Geotchnical investigations, interpretation and recomendatins for earthworks. Foundation design for elevated crossing of the Shaikh Isa Air Base access road. Hydrology and Groundwater Assesssment, Doha (Qatar). Geotechnical investigatins and in-situ testing in connection with road and drainage improvement works to be carried out in the south-western area of Doha and at the township of Wakrah. Interpretation of groundwater conditions; assessment of surface water regime; rainfall frequency/intensity; storm runoff and ground infiltration potential. Al Habal Abiad - Fahid Islands (UAE). Route reconnaissance and ground investigation across coastal islands and sabkah flats. Interpretation and design for 12km highway formation and embankments, involving hydraulic filling and piled foundations for multi span link bridge over Khor Fahid channel. Sheikh Zayed Bridge Construction, Abu Dhabi (UAE). Detailed final design of piling for the Gateway Bridge to Abu Dhabi Island, also foundations for interchange and link structures on the approaches. Highway Construction, Abu Dhabi (UAE). Review of contractor's foundation construction proposals and assessment of pile testing for interchanges on desert truck road scheme. Design of foundations for supplementary protective structures where major live utilities (pertochemical, telecomunications and trunk water supply mains) cross the route corridor. Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Abu Dhabi (UAE). Comprehensive geotechnical support in connection with the Third Bridge Crossing to Abu Dhabi Island. Project responsibilities encompass investigations, interpretation and foundation recommendations for 600m long bridge crossing of Maqta Channel, and 10km of link roads and interchange structures. Also responsible for marine survey and oceanographic, environmental & seismic studies in connection with the project. Refinery Expansion, Aden (Yemen). Establish seismic hazard criteria for refinary development, including new adminstration complex, and review of substructure design. New Truck Road, Abu Dhabi (UAE). Abu Dhabi ~ Dubai trunk road (Al Faya to Seh Sheib section). Management of 90 km desert route reconnaissance, investigations, and interpretive reporting for dual carriageway heavy haulage road and associated interchange structures. Foundation design for interchange bridges, major petrochemical service access culverts and secondary structures. Al Habal Military Bridge, Abu Dhabi (UAE). Design of ground investigation for a multi-span bridge crossing of a tidal creek, interpretation and preliminary pile design. Desert Truck Roads, Abu Dhabi (UAE). Abu Dhabi ~ Dubai (Sweihan Road to Ghantut section) and Abu Dhabi ~ Al Ain (Mussafah to Al Wathba section) trunk routes. Geotechnical reconnaissance, investigation, interpretation and construction recommendations for 80 km of new twin carriageway heavy haulage desert roads,incorporating six elevated structures. Al Sharq Waterfront (Kuwait). Establishment and supervision of in-situ and laboratory testing procedures for the evaluation of foreshore reclamation by hydraulic filling methods for marina complex. Geotechnical interpretation in relation to made ground acceptance criteria. Mina Abdulla Jetty (Kuwait). Review of trial pile driving and dynamic testing in connection with petrochemical jetty reconstruction. Recommendations for installation, re-driving and testing of working tension and compression piles. Mafraq Cement Plant (Yemen). Interpretation and foundation design of heavy foundations and large silo rafts on deep sand and gravel deposits. Assessment of sensitivity of extensive silt lenses, flash flood infiltration and seismic check.
Mundra Port Expansion, Gujerat (India). Geotechnical interpretation and reporting with preliminary foundation design and seismic stability analysis for dredged slopes. Bandra ~ Worli Sealink Project, Mumbai (India). Desk study and advisor for investigation of 8.9km route corridor, including 1.2km marine crossing of Mahim Bay comprising a viaduct and cable stayed bridge. Supervision of high pressure dilatometer testing and interpretation. Engineering recommendations, preliminary pile design and interpretive reporting. Dabhol LNG Terminal, Maharashtra (India). Technical supervision and field interpretation of marine survey and investigations, for jetty, offshore breakwater, and 7.5km dredged approach channel. 350 line km of acoustic and magnetic survey; seabed sediment sampling, in-situ testing and core drilling.
Magat Dam, Luzon (Philippines). Aerial reconnaissance of catchment areas and source river basin in connection with semi quantitative evaluation of hill slope stability, sediment transport and potential sedimentation of hydro power / water supply reservoir. Masara Gold Mine Tailings Dam, Mindanao (Philippines). Undertook an audit of the project design process, an independent review of site preparation works and compilation of a Technical Risk Assessment in respect of the new tailings dam facility associated with expansion of mine production. Chemical Residue Containment Advice, CEPA (China). Working in partnership with an international chemical company, provision of guidance to the Chinese Environmental Protection Agency (CEPA) on world class regulatory standards and generic systems for the safe containment of spent mineral ore. Site Assessment, Zhangqiu, Shandong (China). Desk study review and commentary on preliminary ground investigation information. Evaluation of site development potential and discussion of physical constraints within the site area, with particular reference to a proposed chemical processing plant. Manjung Island Power Station Outfall (Malaysia). Power station development on artificial island. Appraisal of stability and settlement for cooling water outfall channel side slopes and control weir, including seismic checks. Jurong Island Reclamation - Phase 3A (Singapore). Assessment of ground vibration associated with the proposed construction of sand compaction piles, sheet piled anchored walls and cellular cofferdams, to be located in close proximity to operational submarine pipelines, cables and petrochemical jetty. Mariveles LPG Terminal Expansion, Luzon (Philippines). Geotechnical investigations, interpretation and site evaluation for the development of six 4000m3 capacity, settlement sensitive, buried LPG storage vessels. Settlement and slope studies in residual soils, earthworks specification and supervision. Jurong Island Reclamation - Phase 2 (Singapore). Review of proposed sheet piling in close proximity to large diameter submarine oil pipelines, with particular reference to ground vibration during installation and future pipeline maintenance below the retaining wall dredge level. Second Bridge Crossing, Straits of Johor (Singapore/Malaysia). Technical advisor to contractor on aspects of large diameter bored piling and staged grouting of solution cavities. Review of construction problems associated with the displacement of precast foundation piles for approach embankments. Offshore Breakwater, Kertih (Malaysia). Involved with aspects of planning the offshore geotechnical investigations. Post construction monitoring of breakwater stability and performance after first monsoon. Co-ordination of underwater inspection prior to hand-over. Bekok Dam (Malaysia). Post construction review of earthworks performance and variable ground conditions in the main dam foundations. Appraisal of the method specification in relation to the available borrow materials. Palau Seraya Oil Terminal (Singapore). Technical review of piling difficulties and contractor's alternative proposals; including consideration of GI data, specification, engineer's instructions and actual physical conditions.
