Hunterson Drydock Extension, Firth of Clyde (UK). Responsible for appraisal and checking of schemes for extension of the marine construction facility involving the stability of 18m slopes in marine sands, seepage control and sheet piled toe walls. Design of 300t mooring pile groups.

Coastal Protection, Isle of Islay (UK). Design of rock armour defences including the local sourcing of materials and mobilisation of all contractor's resources from Scottish mainland.

HMNB Rosyth, Firth of Forth (UK). Borehole, hydrographic and geophysical investigations for new tidal berthing facility. Design of jetty piling, anchored sheet piling and contiguous bored pile quay wall.

Retaining Structures, River Thames, London (UK). Back analysis and reporting on sheet pile failure in Thames alluvial deposits, Woolwich Arsenal; structural assessment of sheet piled wharf and jetty bearing piles, Northfleet on Thames.

Marine Investigations (UK). Several projects undertaken in UK coastal waters and estuaries for sewer outfalls, coastal erosion studies, harbour development and petrochemical pipelines. Wind Farm Construction - 2004 (NI).
TAPPAGHAN, Co Fermanagh: Design of sustainable site drainage arrangements and peat stability monitoring system.

BioMed Research Centre Earthworks, Edinburgh (UK). Tender evaluation of the suitability of bulk excavation arisings derived from till soils and weathered shallow argillaceous rock formations for particular re-use applications.

Fasnakyle Power Station Extension, Glen Affric (UK). Cat III check of major temporary works for hydro power station extension, involving: sheet piled and anchored support of public road; stabilisation of 11m deep excavation in steeply inclined psammite; cellular cofferdam for River Glass outfall construction designed for 50 year flood event.

Tunnel Cess Drainage, Chipping Sodbury (UK). Independent assessment of large diameter pipe stability under mainline railway loading, when installed in confined location between track and tunnel wall.

Springfield Road Interchange, Belfast (NI). Tender design for variable depth filling over a culverted watercourse and associated compressible alluvial soils, plus the evaluation of negative friction effects on piled foundations.

Sewer Improvements, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh (NI). Assessment of excavation stability in deep alluvial soils under the influence of artesian and sub-artesian conditions. Tender assessment - technical evaluation of proposal submissions.

Toome Bypass, Co Antrim (NI). Assesment of rates of construction and application of staged construction methods for enbankement construction over extensive peat and soft alluvium deposits, up to 20m deep, asross River Bann flood plain. Design of geo-reinforced embankment foundations and piled bank supports with load transfer platform.

Airport Earthworks, Manchester (UK). Geotechnical support for post construction evaluation of major earthworks associated with the second runway project at Manchester International Airport. The works involved a river diversion and embankment construction up to 26m high on the former floodplain of the River Bollin. Particular aspects considered included the control of settlement, rates of embankment construction and short term stability.

Pumping Station Excavations, Buckie, Moray Firth (UK). Design of temporary stabilisation measures for deep excavations in granular beach deposits and steeply inclined open jointed rock formations.

Opencast Sites (UK). Overburden and rock slope stability, site drainage studies and discharge consent for sites at Piper Hill, Ayrshire and Rigmuir, Lanarkshire.

Foyers Hydro Power Station, Loch Ness (UK). Section engineer supervising aspects of hard rock drill and blast excavation for low pressure tunnels. Piled foundations for 7m diameter steel pipeline crossing of Glen Liath. Construction of hydraulic control structures in cofferdam on loch side. Excavation of outfall shafts and tunnels below loch level in sheared granite, requiring extensive fissure grouting and staged excavation methods to be employed.

Mersey Loop Railway, Liverpool (UK). Section engineer supervising mechanical excavation of running tunnel in Bunter sandstone using roadheader mining equipment.
